Podcasts

Here are the podcasts I subscribe to at the moment. I change them often, but this is the current snapshot.

I have a lot of podcasts on this list, but I am ruthless about skipping out of them when they get boring. I might still have to trim the list as I now have over seven hours of audio queued on my Samsung YP-U2 MP3 player.

I have linked to the podcasts’ news feeds, rather than the websites themselves.

*Games*
“Moritz Eggert”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/WestparkGamers – best bit of the Dice Tower although Gamer Tech is good too.
“Point to Point”:http://point2point.libsyn.com/rss – a little too focussed on competitive play, but otherwise excellent.
“Roll 2d6”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/Roll2d6 – rarely updated and focussed on American-style games, rather than Euros, but very well done.
“The Aldie Show”:http://www.thealdieshow.com/feed – Aldie holds his own as a solo podcaster
“The Board Gamer”:http://www.theboardgamer.co.uk/theboardgamer_28Jul06B.xml – On hiatus. Steve is in my games group.

*General Interest*
“BBC World Service documentaries”:http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/worldservice/docarchive/rss.xml
“The Economist”:http://www.economist.com/media/rss/economist.xml – summary of last week’s news.
“The World Next Week”:http://feeds.cfr.org/publication/podcast – summary of next week’s upcoming news
“Military History Podcast”:http://geo47.libsyn.com/rss
“Mark Kermode’s film reviews”:http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/kermode/rss.xml – my favourite podcast bar none
“History Podcast”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/HistoryPodcast1
“Radio 4 Choice”:http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/r4choice/rss.xml

*Linux, Science and Tech*
“IT Conversations”:http://feeds.gigavox.com/gigavox/channel/itconversations
“Sourcetrunk”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/sourcetrunk
“Lugradio”:http://lugradio.org/episodes.ogg.rss – Linux podcast. Juvenile, but otherwise good.
“Security Now”:http://leoville.tv/podcasts/sn.xml – was excellent, but has recently become at least 30% adverts.
“Linux Reality”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/linuxreality-ogg-recent
“The Linux Action Show”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheLinuxActionShow
“The Linux Link Tech Show”:http://www.thelinuxlink.net/tllts/tllts.rss – sound quality is poor and they edit nothing, but these guys do the best interviews
“FLOSS Weekly”:http://leo.am/podcasts/floss
“Science Friday”:http://www.sciencefriday.com/audio/scifriaudio.xml
“The Real Deal”:http://www.cnet.com/i/pod/realdeal.xml

  • I really have to agree with you about Mark Kermode. Half of his reviews aren’t even timely for me over here, but their quality, and Mark and Simon’s “wittering” are worth the price of admission by themselves.

I also subscribe to the Daily Mayo and Simon Mayo’s Books Panel podcasts.

  • I only regularly subscribe to three right now:

    The Dice Tower
    The Spiel
    Radio 4s “Now Show”

Even then I seem to struggle to find the time to listen to them. I may give some of your recommendations a whirl, however.

  • Glad I’m not the only fan out there…

By the way, I finally added your site to my blogroll. Sorry for not doing it sooner. 🙂
