Competition in the Blogosphere

September 11th, 2005

The main reason I was attracted to reading boardgaming blogs was the signal-to-noise ratio, compared to Spielfrieks. Things have changed in the last 20 months. The ratio is still fine, but the bandwidth has grown exponentially. This is not a problem with blogging, because you can choose to filter only the blogs that interest you. The problem is that I look at the other blogs and I am blown away by how good some of them are. I am not sure I would even read my own blog amongst the competition.

Luckily, Alfred has chosen to help us by aggregating the best blog posts. I wish he would trackback to the posts he recommends (pingbacks are easier), but otherwise it is a great idea and I am grateful.

Hint taken…of that whole list, only two blogs had trackbacking (?) at all, but pings should be winging their way out.

    Thanks for the good words!

    Thanks Alfred. :)

The fact that most blogs don’t have trackback enabled is one of the areas where bloardgame blogs are coming up short compared to the rest of the blog world (I refuse to use that sphere word :) ). By discussing each other, which generates trackbacks, which generate crosslinks, which generate pagerank, blogs can generate exposure for each other.

I do wonder if part of the problem is that so many boardgame blogs are hosted on Blogger, which seems to have little or hard to find support for trackbacks.

I must do a post on boardgame blogs for the blog I post to,

I agree. Blogger is pretty poor on that score, but at least Haloscan fixes that problem to some extent.

What’s the URL of your blog?

I was just waiting until the next time I posted to make the change to my information :)

It’s not actually my blog. It’s a group blog set up by a BSW friend. It’s also not a boardgame blog, although all of the posters play on BSW, and at least a little FtF.

So, with that out of the way :) I post to http://www.airgeeks.org/home/ on occasion.

Excellent. I’ll subscribe and check it out. You should put it on your Geek profile.

    Done.

    Blogikysely
