Hello Dudley

On page four of the 1997 rules it says:

when you change a word already on the board into a different word, at least one letter from the old word must remain uncovered and be used in the new word. You _cannot_ stack letters to cover up an entire word.

Good luck with Upwords. Keep on gaming. :)

THE 1997 RULES OF UPWORD ARE NOT CLEAR ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU CAN CHANGE A COMPLETE WORD. IN FACT THE RELEVANT RULE SIMPLY SAYS PLACE ONE OR MORE TILES ON TOP OF AN EXISTING WORD SUGGESTING THAT THERE IS NO LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF LETTERS THAT YOU CAN COVER.
SOME WEBSITES HAVE STATED THAT THAT YOU MUST LEAVE AT LEAST ONE LETTER UNCOVERED BUT IT IS NOT CLEAR WHERE THESE INTERPRETATIONS CAME FROM.

IS THERE AN AUTHORITIVE SOURCE FOR AN APPROVED RULING
