Chess AI
I am not fond of Chess. It is all about mental combat and winning, but not about companionship. However, I do think this computer chess opponent that displays its thinking process is fascinating.

Very cool. Now I only wish someone did the same, but with Go.

It might help if they worked on a decent Go AI first. It’s funny how one of the big selling points of games like Go, Twixt or Havannah is that no decent AI has been developed for them yet. I suppose it is wanting to feel superior to machines? I expect if the best programmers and mathematicians really set their minds to it, it would be possible to create a very strong AI for these games of surrounding and connection.

I think Go AI’s are decent enough for most people. Especially as the Thinking Machine Chess AI isn’t that strong either. GnuGO surpasses that level easily. Twixt is such a minor game I don’t wonder there’s no AI effort. With Go, there should be enough money in it to make it worth the efforts. I think there was a million dollar prize involved at some point.

Well I suppose you are right. I have not actually tried to play much against a Go AI, so I should not comment. It certainly would be interesting to see the thought process graphically. It might even help your own game?
