inconsequential ruminations

A minimalist blog, with a pretentious title, about strategy games.

Issue 27 of The Games Report

with 4 comments

Issue 27 of The Games Report is now online.

This online/offline magazine was one of my first sources in my boardgaming renaissance. As it’s only occasionally updated, it’s out of date, but it’s still worth a look as the reviews are quality.

Peter Sarrett is the only reviewer who attempts to grade a game’s skill level and complexity. The only other prolific reviewer to attempt this is Bruno Faidutti and he rates complexity and quality of components.

  1. Kulkmann’s Gamebox reviews games by complexity, design and fun as well as overall evaluation. This (along with Luding) was one of the first gaming internet sites I came across and, whilst he doesn’t seem as prolific as in the past, there are still hundreds of well written reviews on there which, to a large extent, reflect my tastes and therefore give me a good indication of what I might like.

p.s Now have 4 for Essen this year – shame you can’t make it (but this does mean we get to play games that are restricted to 4!)

  3. There are other German language sites and print magazines that grade also, often by several reviewers at the same time. :)
